SimCity: The Backlash
not like EA could not see it coming. Almost all could
go wrong with the release of SimCity
wrong. But EA has been warned. An AMA on Reddit developers SimCity was perfectly clear how many people were dissatisfied with the requirements entirely online. SimCity closed beta has its own problems, mainly to access the server (not enough of it).
But EA does not seem worried and went ahead with the launch. Shortly after, everything collapsed. The server could not meet the demand, which would have been less damaging if there had been no offline option. Much of the processing is handled on the server side (with the storage of all saved games) and if customers can not find a free slot in the server, then simply do not enjoy your purchase of $ 60. The reaction was immediate. And huge. Polygon (the site of the Verge game) lowered its initial score of 9.5 to 8.0 due to problems online. Giant Bomb has given a fairly low: 3 out of 5, largely due to the fact that EA has made a single player game to support multiplayer online only DRM / functions "social". Critique Jonathan Cresswell delivered perhaps the most succinct (but revealing) review all.
dissatisfaction
In addition, paying customers have expressed. Metacritic score is 82 critical. The user score? 1.8
. Things are so bad in the Amazon, which currently holds a SimCity
1.5 stars
. (The digital version is to worse -.
1.0
Distributors
other games took advantage of the opportunity provided by EA colossal mistake. GOG EA set with a tweet saying that DRM SimCity 2000 does not require an Internet connection (and it's only $ 5.99), which leads to a drop in sales that sent SimCity 2000 to No. 3 on the "Top" Table of. steam Another Redditor suggested follow suit and launch a "line with sales capacity sim city", with not only the city sims online with new offers that arrive every day "until SimCity is playable.
