“Smell-o-Vision” display emits localized virtual odors
localized dimming is an option found on many TVs these days, but why not a screen capable of producing localized odors? This is exactly what a team of University of Agriculture and Technology Tokyo Japan created. "The smell of the screen" which was recently presented at the IEEE Virtual Reality 2013 conference in Orlando, Florida can produce odors that seem to emanate from specific areas of the screen ... NASA 3D-prints and fires rocket engine component
Star Trek Scott
s' have less reason to panic as the day come when even rocket engines can handle on 3D printers. In recent tests, NASA and Aerojet jumped Rocketdyne rocket engine injection NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, which is made by a 3D printer. The project, a collaboration between NASA and the private sector, aims to accelerate the manufacture of components for rockets, while reducing printing costs and space time ... IBM Roadrunner retires from the supercomputer race
For all the money and effort poured into supercomputers, life can be brutally short. See IBM Roadrunner as a classic example: 116640 cluster-core record was only five years ago, yet already considered further in time the Los Alamos National Laboratory is underway on the action today. Do not cry too much for the legend only once, however. The mixture of Opteron and Cell processors is essential to understand the flow of energy in weapons, while promoting HIV studies, nanowires and the known universe. Roadrunner should be useful even in his last breaths, researchers have a month to experiment with routing data and system memory compression before being dismantled serious OS. It is true that the supercomputer was overshadowed by competitors cheaper, faster or green, including Cray renaissance nemesis - but there is no doubt that we have learned from Roadrunner brief moment of glory .

Fraunhofer develops modular, compact radar for rescuers and industry
Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) research have developed a compact and lightweight radar can "see" through non-transparent materials and snow conditions disorientation. The compact radar operates at frequencies between 75 GHz and 110 W in the millimeter band of spectrum range. In this frequency radar can not only identify small objects up to three kilometers (1.8 miles) away, but they can also enter all kinds of non-transparent, non-metallic and dielectric materials, such as clothing, surfaces plastic, paper, wood, snow and fog ... Stanford researchers create genetic transistors, make biologic computing possible
by building computer circuits, most people start with the silicon and metal, but not to the Stanford researchers. The boffins in Palo Alto want to build computers of living tissue, and they have developed a biological transistor, called the transcriber. Transcribers replace DNA and RNA semiconductor electrons in conventional transistors - essentially the transcriber control flow of a specific RNA protein along a DNA strand using appropriate combinations enzymes. The use of these copyists, the researchers constructed logic gates to get answers true / false biochemical issues in living cells. The use of these bio-transistors, researchers have access to data that was previously unavailable (for example, if a single cell has been exposed to certain external stimuli) as well as allowing them to control the basic functions such as cell reproduction .
This new breakthrough - when combined with data storage based on DNA and a method to transfer DNA between cells of the school and works on - means that Stanford created all the elements necessary for a biological computer. This equipment will allow the man to really reprogram how living systems. Of course I built a genetic PC still alive, but to accelerate their development, the team helped all logic gates based transcriber public domain. Looking to build your own organic computer? A full explanation of the transcriber waiting below.

Congratulations Firefox Users, You're Paying Less for Car Insurance
auto insurance representatives should offer discounts based on browser choice There are many ways to save money on your auto insurance. A good agent will help you find all the discounts available to you, but you would be willing to switch browsers if it means a cheaper price? To be clear, this will probably not be an option, but what I
happening is that
Firefox
users, on average, end up paying premiums less expensive than driving any other browser.

Samsung unveils 20-megapixel WB110 bridge camera with 26x optical zoom
often been busy blurring the lines between smartphone and camera recently, Samsung continues to produce regular shooters too. Case in point: just launch the WB110, a successor to 20 megapixel 16 megapixel model last year the same 26x optical zoom packaging. This is far from Nikon 42x superzooms as P520, but means that the Samsung model is more spacious, with a 35mm equivalent range 22.3mm to 580mm. Other highlights video 720p AVC/H.264, 3200 max ISO, Smart Auto mode to help difficult and yet the film shows a pop-up flash, and a 3-inch HVGA (480 x 360). None of these will be the world on fire, so I hope that the price will not burn your pocket once Samsung has anything to announce. No availability date either, but the rest of the story is in the PR after the break.

If Your Kid's Playing M-Rated Games, You Can't Blame The Retailer
The national debate revolves around violent video games and what should be done with them still no sign of slowing down. The usual handwringers (professional and amateur) expressed dismay that games with guns and handles are sold to the youth of America, leading us to a future non-stop and Grand Theft Auto bursts of inspiration shootings violence nihilistic.
Cries question of "not someone think of the children" probably never disappear, at least not as much as the video games are perceived as not-kid distractions. (Note to Nintendo:. Are not really help with this error) Legal panicists paint a bleak picture in which 10 years stroll hypothetical Wal-Mart with newly purchased copies simulator 5000 murder and disappeared into their dark room, only to emerge moments later, armed to the teeth and greatly overestimate his or her life.
You see, the proverbial 10 years shooting outside a shopping center with a M-rated game is now 23 and perfectly capable of buying their own games million adults. Each year, retail audits and cinemas FTC with an army of minors secret shoppers. And every year, those numbers improve.
thirteen years ago (2000) was the lowest 85% of children were able to buy M a popular game. Since last year, the number was lower in the teens.
Only 13 percent of buyers of minors were able to buy M-rated video games, while a low 24 percent were able to buy tickets R-rated movies And for the first time since the FTC began its mystery shopper program in 2000, the retail music CD is absent for more than half of shoppers. Movie DVD retailers have also shown steady improvement, allowing less than a third of buyers child and buy R-rated DVDs without DVD movies that were rated R for theaters.
