postheadericon DailyDirt: Life On Other Worlds

The origin of life is a mystery pretty huge. There are many theories about how life could occur, but it is difficult to design experiments to reduce them. Meanwhile, researchers continue to search for clues and evidence that life did not originate on Earth. Here are some examples that could one day lead us in the right direction.
  • meteorite fragments found in Sri Lanka * might * contain extraterrestrial fossils - if a little squint and nod, as fossil algae support panspermia theory for the origin of life . This is not the first time a scientific journal published an article like this, and not the last. The real question is when these roles really convincing skeptics .... [Url]
  • In 1996, a rock called ALH84001 was a lot of news when scientists said they may contain traces of life on Mars in the form of microfossils. Since then, the debate seems to have settled in ALH84001 the idea that small fossils are not necessarily created by ET life, and the agitation of the media reiterated that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Maybe we will see evidence of life outside our solar system, evidence of mining asteroids around other stars - if we see unusual amounts of dusty debris, could mean life intelligence was to explore interplanetary resources. It can be difficult to determine the difference between natural and unnatural debris, however. [Url]

NASA Curiosity Mars Rover discovered that ever an environment conducive to life. This is an important finding and raises questions of why Mars does not seem to have life everywhere now. [Url]
