postheadericon Lord McAlpine, Wronged By BBC, Demands 10,000 People On Twitter Pay Up

People in the UK have spent much of the month following the story of Lord McAlpine (Robert Alistair McAlpine), former politician who worked for Margaret Thatcher. Earlier this month, the BBC reported in its Newsnight

program an anonymous former "senior" policy in the British government was involved in a scandal of abuse Children. People on Twitter quickly supported by the description it was McAlpine, and the story quickly spread. A few days later, The Guardian published an article that was a case of mistaken identity. The scandal has plunged into chaos by the BBC reports.

But the most interesting for us is the fact that Lord McAlpine (not a Twitter user) has announced its intention to take 10,000 Twitter users, and claims he was the person in question or retweet someone say that. Some have already apologized for his tweets, but even among those who, say lawyers McAlpine go to ridiculous extremes, with one person, Sally Bercow, who apologized, McAlpine also said lawyers are "hunters ambulance" and "big bullies".
But the decision to force people to pay 10,000 sounds crazy:

Lord McAlpine lawyers have also developed a "long list" of targets for defamation, including the authors of the original 1000 tweets retweeted 9000 elderly messages.

Apparently, if you are "small time", you will not pay more than:
lawyer Lord McAlpine, Andrew Reed, said last night that they have less than 500 followers are invited to make a donation to charity as part of an agreement with part of management "" to classify. He added that the high profile figures such as Mrs Bercow, are "a separate issue".
Here is the crazy part: ". Restore my reputation, "McAlpine said he did this to Twitter 10,000 Demanding compensation will not" restore "reputation. It will tarnish. Yes, it is quite clear that McAlpine was injured by the initial reports suggest he was involved in the scandal. And the BBC pays well above his mistake (apparently an agreement was negotiated six digits). But the news that the BBC report spread like wildfire wrong. Everyone knows that the report was false. Persecute people on Twitter to talk about anything to restore his reputation, is just like a giant tyrant -. And in this process, much more striking that he and his tactics here
