Open Source Era for HP's WebOS Begins Today with Beta Release

It has been eight long months since HP first announced that webOS software contribute to the open source community, essentially hand over the reins to third party developers.The beta version of webOS contains 54 items, all available as open source. It represents more than 450,000 lines of code released under the Apache 2.0 license, "which is one of the most liberal and accepted in the open source community," HP said in a blog.
