postheadericon PCI Express Developing Blazing-Fast External Standard

They say you can never have too much of a good thing. This theory 's put to the test to transfer technology from computer. We 've already has FireWire, USB, Ethernet, eSATA, et cetera, et cetera. Now a veteran in the field sporting new technology, the PCI Special Interest Group has recently announced that they 're developing a new standard for an external, wired version of the previously internal-only PCI Express. Watch out, Intel - this tech 's record with Thunderbolt come into the market.

The specification 's still in the design phase, but the target numbers, which threw some still make you sit up one sitting. EE Times reports, based on the external PCI Express and PCIe 3.0 is capable of transfer rates of up to distances of up to three meters, a number that Thunderbolt 's does nothing else, quick 10Gbps 32Gbps seem sluggish in comparison. On the other side of the spec 't support units that won in more than 20 watts power draw, so the dream of plug-n-play high-end graphics cards is still only a dream.

Design-wise, the external PCI 's cable and connector are "expected to be flatter than the Thunderbolt," says EE Times. The original design is based on standard copper lines, but high-speed copper and fiber optic cabling specs could be implemented in the future. Don 't start drooling yet, though - PCIe external cable aren' t expected that the roads meet up halfway through the year 2013.
